Sixty-one notes instead of seventy-three, a lighter case, and a control section stripped to what you need on a stage. The Stage 61 exists because the full-size Rhodes is a wonderful instrument and a miserable thing to load into a van at one in the morning.

Built to travel
Nothing has been compromised in the sound. It is the same tine-and-pickup engine as the rest of the MK8 range, made in the same workshop. What has gone is the weight and the width — enough of both to change whether the instrument comes with you or stays at home.
For touring players and anyone gigging regularly, that is usually the deciding factor. A Rhodes that lives in the studio gets played on records. A Rhodes that fits in the car gets played everywhere.
The one that fits in the car and still sounds like a Rhodes.
